Al Quick ’62

Albert T. Quick is Dean and Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Toledo College of Law and is Of Counsel with the law firm of Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge. He served as Dean and Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University College of Law, and was Professor of Law at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law where he taught Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminal Law. While at the University of Louisville, he also served as Special Assistant to the Provost. He was Director of the Criminal Justice Division at the University of Maine, Augusta. Following his deanship at the University of Toledo, he taught various semesters as a Visiting Professor at Michigan State University College of Law, Barry University College of Law, and Jilin University College of Law, which is located in Changchun, China. Prior to his academic career, he was an assistant prosecutor in Calhoun County, Michigan and in private practice.

Dean Quick has written several articles in the areas of Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure and Criminal Law, and was the contributing author (with D. Benson) for several years for the FEDERAL RULES OF CRIMINAL PROCEDURE, Clark Boardman Callaghan. He also has spoken on numerous topics, including free speech, civil rights, and search and seizure.

Dean Quick currently is a member of the Wayne State University Law School Board of Visitors. He has served as Co-Chair of the Traverse City Human Rights Commission and Vice President of the Traverse Area District Library Board of Trustees. He also has served on the Committee on Justice Initiatives with the State Bar of Michigan and was a Commissioner with the State Bar’s Open Justice Commission. Additionally, he has served on numerous committees for the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, the Ohio Bar Association, and the Toledo Bar Association.

In 1995, Dean Quick was awarded the Medallion of Justice by the National Bar Association for his work in the area of civil rights. He also is an honorary member of Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Societies.

Dean Quick received an LL.M. degree, with Distinction, from Tulane University (1974), a J.D. degree from Wayne State University (1967), an M.A. degree from Central Michigan University (1964), and a B.A. degree from the University of Arizona (1962).

He is married to Brenda and together they have six children.
